It has made me realize the connection of our focus questions and the assessments used. I also like the idea of students and teachers assessing themselves. This shows some gaps that may be in our instruction. It also makes the students think more thoroughly.

-the assessment must be something the students can do by themselves (with any appropriate accommodation)
-the assessment must be related with the project!...if not...what is the purpose!

Today has helped me think about student centered assessment in how little I allow the students to access themselves. It seems that so often that the children to the work and I give them feedback. Now I have realized the importance of allow the students to assess themselves.

I have begun to think about having the students do more reflective assessements. Throughout the project they should have time to journal or complete a checklist to see where they are in their thinking. They may need to redirect their thoughts or add to what they are doing. I have been doing the same end of project assessments for so long, module five has helped me evaluate my way of assessing my students.

Modlue 5 has helped me to REMEMBER that I need to assess students in a variety of ways. Generally, the question/answer/test method is the "quickest and easiest" for the teacher part of me. I need to be reminded that I would rather be tested in a different manner.

I also need to be more aware of what I am asking of them. I need to ask for and model positive suggestions and comments. I am going to try not to tell them what not to do, but try to live in the positive!!!

Module 5 has guided me into a structured, organized way of leading student feedback and assessment. This involvement of the students in this manner requires them to be active learners in order that they will be able to share in accessing.

Module 5 stressed the importance of student assessment of themselves in addition to teacher assessment. Their own assessment is vital for their own reflections and possible improvement or expansion of thinking and learning.

It has made me dig deeper into what I really want to assess and how I want to assess it. By looking at assessment examples, I found more ideas for assessments than just the "typical" types.

assessment both formal and informal are reflective in our plan...I realized that I really don't let students create assessments...as a teacher of fourth graders I would like to begin moving in that direction
:~)

I love the idea of students assessing themselves. My second graders are so dependent on asking me if something they are doing is for a grade or not. Self assessment holds them accountable for themselves, which is so important.

Assessment is more involved than we tend to want to make it. Secondary people love those tests that come with their textbook. We do use other kinds of assessments, but how does it show up in their (the kids) grades? We tend to only "grade" those TESTS. Assessments really do take a lot of thought and a lot of work. I do believe once they are created, you have something invaluable.

My insight/concern is that I still have a lot of work to do before this is ready for use in the classroom!

Module 5 has helped me realize that I must make intentional changes in the student sample to allow for assessment of some of the goals that I had set. It also forced me to put myself in the shoes of the student, so that I could perceive the project from their vantage point.

I couldn't help but think about ways that we are trying to improve assessment with technology. The SRS allows for immediate feedback and discussion. It also allows the teacher to have knowledge of mastery. It will also let you know immediately if you actually taught what you thought you were teaching!

I love self assessment. Can't waot to use it with my students.

Module 5 has helped me to realize that I need to think more about how I assess my students and to incorporate different types of assessments in my classroom throughout the unit - rather than wait until the end. One of several areas I need to work on is self assessment. It is very difficult with the time constraints that I have with each subject to fully utilize self-assessments. I personally feel this is an integral part of the assessment process and if used appropriately can greatly enhance the learning process. I utilize pre-assessments, especially the KWL, chart to help me determine what my students already know, but find I am not utilizing assessments during the process to make sure they are "on the right track".

Module 5 helped me to organize my thoughts to produce more meaningful assessment for the students. Allowing students to participate in creating assessments will guide them as they produce their power points.

Module 5 has helped me to pull the various parts of a project together and better prepare the student for success. Better self assessments allow the student and peers to guide the project and increase student learning.

Module 5 helped me realize much of the work in assessing the quality and progress can be done by the students themselves, taking much of that formal workload off of the teacher, and allowing me to exercise the role as adviser and coach.

I continue to be impressed with this course. I tend to feel inferior with all that other folks here are able to do. In reflection, I question my classroom practice and I hope(!) I am learning something that I can put to use. Assessing has always been the most difficult part of our job for me. It will take me some time to digest what we learned today, but I hope that there are people in our building that can help me implement a good assessment for student projects.
